There’s a story about a fishmonger, and there’s a very successful fishmonger selling fish, only the finest qualities, and his business was really good. He started specializing in one particular type of fish, and this fish became complacent. They just stopped swimming around, and overall, just got pretty lazy. Now, the quality of this fish started to drop. The flavor profile just wasn’t there. The fish weren’t swimming around, they weren’t getting the exercise they needed, or absorbing the correct amount of nutrients.
We all have dreams, and going on the Author of Your Own Story route, many of us have big, big dreams. A lot of times, these dreams have been in the back of our minds for many years. In fact, you may even have a vision board or something else that has your dreams on it. Now let me ask you this, is there a dream or a goal or whatever you wanna call it that you’ve had that you hope to hit, but every year you just keep reinstating that goal?
I have the unique privilege of coaching a lot of business clients, and one is actually in a group, and they’re fitness professionals. Now, these are fitness professionals with over five years of experience in the fitness industry, and all of them own their own facility. They’re extremely intelligent individuals, but when it comes to their business, typical business operations, often time, they use the excuse of it being too complex, not enjoying it, or just not understanding.
Last 24 hours, I’ve had the privilege of coaching three high-level businessmen as part of my coaching regime. And coaching one of these individuals, it dawned on me, and I actually saw this across the whole line. Well, I shouldn’t say it dawned on me because it was something I already knew and I see if often.
So, how do you become superhuman? Well, I thought about this, this morning as I was journaling. Now, here it is five am, and my family’s asleep, but I was journaling out there, and I was thinking about, how do you become superhuman? Like, why do some people seem to excel and others don’t? Then as soon as I thought that, I turned my head, and I noticed a bent nail. A nail, a thick nail that was bent, by David Whitley, when I was in a conversation with him.

When’s the last time you gave yourself a pat on the back? Follow along with me. Go ahead and raise your right hand really high. Raise it high. Now, what I want you to do is I want you to bend your elbow to a 90-degree angle, so your hand is behind your head. Then I want you to rotate your palm so it’s actually facing the ground, and then I simply want you to pat yourself on the back.
The other day I was walking in my office, and I walked by a paperclip on the ground. As I walked by I felt the urge to bend down and pick it up, but I also felt the urge to just keep going because it was just a paperclip on the ground and I was in the middle of packing for a trip. Then I realized, then I realized that it was just a part of the energy that was going occupy a part, of my mind. The paperclip, that is.
Here I am down in Orange County, California down at a private beach, a house located in a gated community with its own private beach just beyond the wall that I’m standing next to. An absolutely amazing place. I’m down here for the holidays visiting my family.
Throughout my life, I’ve played soccer, and I’ve played soccer at a very competitive level. Although I only played one year in college, I played after that as well. I can tell you, I have never been the best guy on the field. Just haven’t. I’m not the most talented soccer player. I certainly don’t have the build, and I certainly don’t have the skills the other guys have had. Yet, I’ve been able to maintain being able to play at a competitive level because I will outwork the other guy.
