Patience

Patience

The question came up today, for me, and it was actually from one of our staff members. They were saying, “Doug, I’d love to hear a daily growth hack on patience,” and what they meant by patience, once we got some clarification, was patience regarding waiting for something. Maybe it’s a baby, or a relationship, or a promotion, or something along those lines, like, “I’m just working on my patience, what can I do?”

Now, when thinking about patience, there’s a lot of things to consider here. One is expectations versus possibilities. Now, a lot of times when your patience is wearing thin, so you’re not having patience, things aren’t coming as quickly as you’d like to, that’s because your expectation is up here. You’ve set an expectation really high. You expect something to happen by a certain time, so that expectation isn’t being met. Therefore, you’re running out of patience. You’re running out of time. You’ve expected something. You’ve expected the cable guy to get there by 2:00 PM. You’ve expected to get that promotion by your 30-day review. You’ve expected to have a child with your partner within the first year.

My Back Hurts

My Back Hurts

Today I’m going to talk about the body and I’ll relate it back to other areas of your life in a little bit. Now, I had a fitness professional reach out to me that needed help with a client. What they were talking about is their client’s back was hurting while working their abs. What they were looking for are ways of strengthening the back so they could advance. Now, I get this topic a lot or I get this question a lot because of my background. I also hear this from clients, from friends, from just people in general. Especially when getting ready for the summer, everybody wants to look good when the weather gets warmer.

Magnesium

Magnesium

Today we’re going to focus on your body. In particular, we’re going to talk about supplementation and we’re going to talk about magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral that most people in Western societies are deficient in.Magnesium has a lot of benefits. Some of the reported benefits are an increase in energy with a supplementation of magnesium. Calming of your nerves and anxiety, which is something that I can attest to. Help with digestion by relieving constipation. Now, this is also something to watch out for. With excessive magnesium supplementation, it’s actually going to act like a diuretic.

Box Breathing

Box Breathing

Today I’m going to talk about box breathing. Now I first learned about box breathing from Mark Divine, a fantastic author, founder of SEALFIT, a former Navy Seal, and also just a great inspiration. I highly recommend doing a quick Google search and seeing some of Mark’s writings, as well as his videos. Well worth your time.

I currently use box breathing with my clients, as well as in my daily practice. Before I get into how to use box breathing, let me talk about some of the benefits and some of the ways that I utilize it currently that I think might benefit you.

You and the Million Dollar Thoroughbred

You and the Million Dollar Thoroughbred

Imagine that you just went out and invested in a million-dollar Thoroughbred. A racehorse of supreme quality. Now when you take this horse home, are you going to go to the stable and feed this horse junk food? Are you going to push this horse beyond its breaking point causing injury, causing fatigue? Are you going to allow this thoroughbred to stay up late, are you going to keep it up really late and wake it up early in the morning so it gets sleep deprived? Are you going to treat this horse poorly? Of course, you’re not.
