Doing the Impossible

Doing the Impossible

I just got back from the gym and if you’re watching this on video you can see that I literally just got back and rolled right into my office to record this because while I was there I heard two women talking about how they could never run a 5K. They were talking about it as if it the most impossible thing in the world to them. The truth is…it probably was in their version of reality….

Go Mow The Lawn

Go Mow The Lawn

So what does this have to do with going to mow the lawn? Well, I was just talking to a client of mine, an extremely intelligent, successful man, and we were talking about what was going on in his life and just catching up, which is what we do for the first five minutes or so in a coaching call, to see what’s happened between the last call that we had.

Patterns in Your Relationships

Patterns in Your Relationships

Patterns are certain things that we see coming up in our lives over and over again. What I’m going to talk about today are patterns specifically in relationships. When you think back on your life, think about the relationship you’re currently in or were in recently. If you haven’t been in a relationship, think of a friendship in particular. That is a relationship, but it’s easier sometimes to think about romantic relationships. My guess is each relationship that you’ve had has a very specific pattern that we could break down together.

Drugs on Your Birthday

Drugs on Your Birthday

Today I’m gonna tell you a little story about a client of mine. Now, this client is very successful again, and I say again because they were successful many years ago. But the reason I’m telling you this story is because his birthday is actually today. We were talking yesterday about his birthday and what it means to him. What he let me know is a year ago he was a full on drug addict….

Five to Thrive

Five to Thrive

The 5 To Thrive is something that I base all my coaching on. I’ve been coaching and doing personal business development for many years. I’ve been doing it since I was in high school and am in my 40s now, so you can do the math.

But, what I’ve learned is there are five key elements to a holistic and successful life.

Because

Because

Today I want to talk about the use of the word because. This is something I learned a long time ago that really opened my eyes. In fact, l would say I learned it almost 15 years ago and really recognized it not only in my own speech patterns and habits but also in those of my clients. Whether they were early on in my career as just a personal trainer, fitness professional, or moving on to what I’m doing now.

So the use of the modifier, the word “because”, think about how it’s typically used.

Crab Vs. Buffalo

Crab Vs. Buffalo

Today I want to talk to you about two animals that you know very well – the crab and the Buffalo and what’s the difference between the two?

See, oftentimes especially in our daily lives we operate from the place of a crab and what I mean by that is when you put a crab or a series of crabs into a pot what happens is one of the crabs starts to crawl out of the pot because it’s getting hot, and then the other crabs pull them back down.

Self Worth

Self Worth

It’s caused him to get into drug addiction, multiple relationships and pregnancies with women he doesn’t even care about. It’s caused him to destroy relationships. That he actually does care about people he loves. He’s burnt bridges. He’s gone bankrupt. He’s destroyed his business. He’s destroyed his health. He’s destroyed his soul. He’s actively seeking a way of doing this but it comes down to self-worth and when I told him was there’s no amount of tips or tactics or little secrets that I can give him just do this once a day that are going to help him.

Self-Appreciation

Self-Appreciation

Now, self-appreciation is also called self-love. This is often times when working with a client, something that I see missing. And we all think “I love myself, I like myself, that’s all good, Doug.” But I can tell you right now, I have a lot of clients that pay me a lot of money to help them break through barriers to up-level their lives. The reason this works is that I am able to look past them and see the love or missing elements within themselves. Often times, the first things I have them do, is really assess their level of self-appreciation.

How to make a Million Dollars

How to make a Million Dollars

Now, I’m often asked by people, especially young entrepreneurs, of how they can increase their revenue. Whether you’re an intrapreneur, meaning you’re working in a business already or an entrepreneur meaning you have your own business, having some extra revenue and cash flow is always key. I mean, don’t we all want just a little bit of extra spending money in our hands?

Now, when we think about being the Author of Your Own Story, part of that is just having freedom, and that freedom to me means freedom to do what you want when you want, within reason. And having extra cash certainly helps

Travel. Get Away, Have Fun And Relax.

Travel. Get Away, Have Fun And Relax.

Having just got back from vacation I have something to tell you. Travel. Get away, have fun and relax.  If for whatever reason you can’t travel far then don’t.  Do a short trip. If you can’t do that the find someplace locally where you can just escape to. Find a spot...

One at a Time

One at a Time

Now, today I want to talk to you entrepreneurs that are out there. So if you’re an entrepreneur or maybe you’re currently in a job and you have an entrepreneurial flare, often times we jumped what’s called “shiny object syndrome” It’s when you have one project you’re working on that project, and then all of sudden you have a light bulb idea and you jump to that project. Soon, you feel like you’re juggling plates and you have all kinds of things going on. You have 10 projects going on at once, but none of them seem to get done. You may even schedule an hour a day for each project, but still, you’re not making headway.

You don’t want to do the work

You don’t want to do the work

Hey guys I want to shoot this really quick video for you. I woke up this morning, getting my coffee ready, and I looked down at my cell phone and I had a business owner that just blew my phone up with texts messages. Starting out with, “Doug I need your help.” Now this is a person that wants to be a coaching client of mine that I actually turned down. This is a six-figure opportunity for me. That’s what I charge for a one-year coaching program. And I just didn’t feel it was the right fit and the reason I didn’t feel is the right fit is because really what they want is my lifestyle and the lifestyle I’ve been able to develop. And what they don’t want is the actual work so instead of me telling you more about this, I’m going to let ET kick it off.

Good enough?

Good enough?

if you’re watching this from the video, you can tell that I’m actually in my adventure van. This is a 2016 Sprinter 4 X 4 extended that my wife and I converted into an actual RV / office that allows us to travel anywhere we want to go. And work remotely and play. Well besides that, the real story is: This morning I woke up and I had a dilemma. I say a dilemma because any time you’re stuck between two choices: this or that, it’s a dilemma. And so that’s what I mean when I say “Are you stuck in the world of war?” So what I could have done is sat at home, which I love my home, it’s absolutely beautiful, and worked on a course that I’ve been developing for entrepreneurs and businessmen.

Extra Time

Extra Time

Now, what do I mean by extra time. I know you’re thinking like “Doug, you know we all have 24 hours in a day. Nobody has extra time.” And that’s totally true, but let’s say you’re the average American.

Now, I know you’re watching this and you’re going off to www.authorofyourownstory.com and you’re participating in the community. You are anything but average. You’re extraordinary. You’re actually one of those people that are taking the bull by the horns, and living life on your terms. And I commend you for that, but let’s take a step back and just think, “What if you were average? You’re the average person, okay? And maybe we’re closer than we think. Well, did you know the average person spends four hours a day watching TV? Two more hours on social media. That’s six hours a day. Well, what could you do with six hours a day?

Pareto’s Law and your to-do list

Pareto’s Law and your to-do list

Now, if you’re like me, your to-do list is a mile long. There’s all kinds of apps these days: web applications with different tips and tricks on how to manage it a to-do list. You know, people are always adding to it. It could be your spouse, another loved one, family member, friends, co-workers.

The list goes on, and no matter how much you chip away at that to-do list, it always seems to keep growing. Well, I want to talk about a technique that I utilize. It helps me be really efficient and get a lot more done as well as spend more time doing the things that I like to do.

Imperfect action vs perfect inaction

Imperfect action vs perfect inaction

Now, about two years ago I came up with the Author of Your Own Story concept, and the reason I came up with this is I really wanted to make a bigger impact. I had people asking me how I was living the lifestyle that I was living, and how I was able to develop the businesses that I had and do all those things that I was doing. It seemed impossible to them and I knew it wasn’t. We can all do that. But what I also recognized is that by answering these questions every day, on a one-on-one basis, I really couldn’t affect as many people as I truly wanted to.

Balance

Balance

Throughout my life, my balance has been up, down, or all around, as it is for almost all of us. It’s a topic that is talked about in both personal development, self-help, business, and even religious courses. Balance is just critically important to human nature. We all know it, but often times we’re just out of balance. I certainly have been. There have been times in my life when I’ve been so focused on relationships that my business or personal goals have gone to the sidelines.

Or I’ve been so focused on my health and fitness, that actually my relationships have suffered. Or perhaps my spirituality or my mental development. I know for me, as an athlete growing up, physical fitness was always extremely important. Now, this ended up helping my relationships but my spirituality actually suffered.
